December’s Featured Question:

Q: I'm having an afternoon April wedding on a golf course with white chairs, tents and guests...I don't know what kind of musicians to hire and how to arrange the music? Piano is out of the question as we cannot carry it outside on the grass. Do you have any great suggestions for outdoor ceremony musicians?
- - Farnoosh. North Carolina.

A: Congrats on your engagement! I hope that wedding planning is going well for you. An outdoor wedding in the springtime is so idyllic, peaceful and serene.

Consider choosing ceremony music to compliment this light and lovely feel. A classic choice would be a string ensemble. Viola, violin, string bass. If you wanted to choose instrumentation that's a bit different, classical guitar is a lovely option, and it can be especially romantic when paired with a flute. A harp, too, can create light and dazzling ceremony melodies.

Vivald's "Four Seasons - Spring," Handel's "Water Music," and Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" all leap to mind as beautiful, timeless choices for these instrumentation.

You'll want to remember that each of these instruments in delicate and fragile, and even the slightest drizzle can be devastating to the instrument. So you'll want to position the musicians beneath a tent or awning of some sort.
