A Feast of Flavors
This is probably the second sense you will consider. What will you guests eat? But are you thinking about how the flavors you offer coordinate with your whole day? And are you thinking about the meaning or impact certain tastes could have in the context of your wedding. Here are some ideas for subtle ways to create design unity between the flavors and the other elements of your wedding:
- Consider the flavor names of your colors. Raspberry. Chocolate. Lime. Cranberry. These are colors as well as tastes. If you’ve made a strong visual choice by selecting one of these colors, why not carry it into the realm of taste by incorporating some of these flavors in your offerings? Choose fruit punches that are not only the color of your wedding, but also the taste of that color. Offer a signature cocktail, like cranberry martinis with cranberry studded swizzle sticks.
- Offer foods with meaning. Have a recipe from your first date dinner? Ask the chef if he can prepare it. Your grandmother can’t be with you on the wedding day? Have the chef prepare her lamb chop as way of including her in the day. You, and your family, probably have strong associations with certain flavors, why not capture them to make your reception even more poignant.
- Offer seasonal delights. Having a garden wedding in July? Offer the fare of summer - chilled soups, fresh fruit, and sorbet. An intimate wedding in November? Offer steaming bowls of soup with hearty breads, wild game, or harvest vegetables. This subtle reminder or time and place will bring harmony to your event.
