Your Vendors as Artists

Understanding their Business

Although it’s the only wedding that’s important to you, recognizing that your vendors have numerous weddings at any given time will help you understand their behavior, priorities and will help you communicate well with them.

Its great that you have booked your florists (or cake designer, or caterer, etc) sixteen months out, but don’t be surprised if he/she doesn’t want to get into every detail of the centerpieces at your first wedding. He/she is probably occupied with the three wedding they have that week. Ask your florists when you should meet to go over the details and nail down the specifics. Making sure that its closer to your wedding date will move you up the priority ladder and will also ensure that he/she remembers the subtleties of the conversation.

When you call and are working with your professional or his/her assistants, be sure to give them enough information to know who you are. Some vendors see twenty brides every week, so giving your full name, your wedding date and location every time you call is important. Don’t assume that there aren’t three other “Sallys” getting married in “August.”
